Perlis MB Mohd Shukri resigns citing health reasons

Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli resigns, citing health factors, with his departure effective upon consent from the Raja of Perlis.

KANGAR: Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli (pic) has tendered his resignation, citing health factors.

He presented his resignation letter to the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, at the ruler’s palace.

“I hereby leave it entirely to the wisdom of His Royal Highness Tuanku to consider my decision,” Mohd Shukri said at a press conference.

His resignation will take effect upon receiving the consent of Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin.

The Sanglang assemblyman expressed gratitude to the royal family, state administrative staff, and the people of Perlis for their support over his three-year tenure.

He also thanked his party’s leadership and sought forgiveness for any shortcomings during his service.

Mohd Shukri was recently hospitalised in Kuala Lumpur after experiencing chest pain upon returning from an overseas trip.

Reports had also emerged that several Perikatan Nasional state assemblymen met the Raja of Perlis to express a loss of confidence in the Menteri Besar.

Following these developments, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang terminated the membership of three Perlis PAS assemblymen with immediate effect.

The affected assemblymen are Saad Seman (Chuping), Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (Bintong) and Mohd Ridzuan Hashim (Guar Sanji).

Perlis speaker Rus’sele Eizan subsequently announced unexpected vacancies for the three state seats.

The vacancies fulfil constitutional requirements, paving the way for by-elections in the constituencies.

In GE15, Perikatan Nasional won 14 of Perlis’s 15 state seats, with the remaining seat held by PKR.
