Chelsea sack manager Maresca after 18 months in charge

English football club Chelsea have parted ways with head coach Enzo Maresca after a poor run of form, with the club fifth in the Premier League and 15 points off the top.

CHELSEA Football Club have sacked head coach Enzo Maresca after 18 months in charge.

The Premier League club announced the Italian’s departure on Thursday.

Chelsea are currently fifth in the table but 15 points behind leaders Arsenal.

They have won just one of their last seven league games.

Speculation over Maresca’s future had grown during this poor run amid reports of a strained relationship with the club’s hierarchy.

“With key objectives still to play for across four competitions including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track,” a club statement said.

Maresca did not attend Tuesday’s post-match press conference after a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, with his absence attributed to illness.

He recently stood by comments made on December 13 that many at Chelsea were not supporting him or the team.

Maresca had described the days before a 2-0 win over Everton as “the worst 48 hours” of his tenure.

His contract had been due to run until the summer of 2029.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, Maresca led Chelsea to Europa Conference League and Club World Cup glory in 2025.

He also secured the club’s return to the Champions League.
