Anwar says unity government stable, focused on economy and welfare

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim affirms the unity government’s stability, pledging a focus on economic growth and public welfare until the next election.

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has affirmed that the Unity Government remains intact and stable.

He stated its primary focus is now on ensuring sustainable economic growth and the wellbeing of the people.

Anwar said all parties within the coalition have pledged to concentrate on these goals until the 16th General Election.

This comes despite speculation regarding the possible revival of the Muafakat Nasional (MN) pact.

He described such calls as not yet at a serious stage, adding he had received no further information on MN’s formation.

“But what is important now is that the Unity Government remains intact and everyone has given their pledge to focus on economic growth and safeguarding the welfare of the people until the next General Election,” he said.

“As for people having their aspirations and delusions, or issues of disunity, that is their problem… (we) do not interfere in Bersatu’s problems… disunity is not an issue for the Unity Government,” Anwar told reporters after Friday prayers at Masjid Jumhuriah.

Earlier calls from UMNO and PAS leaders to revive MN followed recent political developments in Perlis involving Bersatu and PAS.

Prior to prayers, Anwar spent time lunching with the community at the Medan Selera in Taman Dato Harun.

He was welcomed by stall owner Nor Azizah Che Rose and her husband Azhar Maddin, who have operated the business for 40 years.

Anwar chatted with patrons for about 15 minutes while enjoying Minang dishes like beef rendang.
