Mohd Faizal said he would work closely with the BN machinery to ensure the party retains the constituency, despite Linggi being regarded as a BN stronghold.
PORT DICKSON: Incumbent Linggi assemblyman Datuk Mohd Faizal Ramli has vowed to defend the seat for Barisan Nasional (BN) after being challenged by caretaker Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun in the state election.
Mohd Faizal said he accepted the mandate given by BN to defend the seat, where he will face Aminuddin of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Bersatu candidate Datuk Zamri Md Said.
He said the contest would be different this time as Aminuddin, the caretaker Menteri Besar, had chosen to contest Linggi.
Mohd Faizal said he would work closely with the BN machinery to ensure the party retains the constituency, despite Linggi being regarded as a BN stronghold.
“Although Linggi has been described as a stronghold, it is not something that can be taken for granted.
“I will not consider it an advantage because every opportunity and every moment during this campaign must be utilised to the fullest.”
He said the campaign period should be conducted responsibly, urging all parties to avoid excessive provocation, personal attacks and unfounded allegations.
“I hope the two-week campaign will proceed smoothly and peacefully. We should avoid unnecessary provocation, slander and baseless allegations.
“Linggi is a close-knit community where people live together peacefully. If we go too far during the campaign, it could create hatred and resentment.
“After the election, we will still meet and live together.”
Mohd Faizal said candidates and political parties should exercise moderation throughout the campaign to maintain harmony among voters.
The Linggi contest is among the closely watched battles in the Negeri Sembilan state election, with Aminuddin making a high-profile move from Sikamat, the seat he has represented since 2008, to contest a constituency currently held by BN.
