Flood evacuees rise in Sabah and Sarawak, Johor numbers steady

Flood evacuees increase to 513 in Sabah and 166 in Sarawak, while Johor holds at 50 as relief centres remain active across three states

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood evacuees at temporary and permanent relief centres in Sabah and Sarawak has increased slightly this morning, while the figure in Johor remains unchanged.

In Sabah, the total rose to 513 people from 177 families, up from 510 people from 164 families yesterday, according to the state’s Disaster Management Committee.

The statement said 338 people from 120 families from eight villages in Beaufort are still sheltering at the Selagon Hall permanent relief centre.

In Kota Kinabalu, 158 people from 53 families are placed at the temporary relief centre at Al-Munir Mosque Hall in Kampung Darau.

Kota Belud is the latest affected district, with a relief centre opened at Lentigi Village Hall housing 17 victims from four families.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department forecasts thunderstorms in several interior areas of Sabah this morning, afternoon, and evening, with temperatures between 22 and 33 degrees Celsius.

In Sarawak, the state committee reported the number of evacuees at the SMK Bekenu relief centre in Miri increased to 166 people from 53 families as of 8 am.

This is up from 47 people from 18 families reported yesterday afternoon.

In Johor, the number of evacuees held steady at 50 people from 15 families as of 8 am, all housed at two relief centres in Segamat.

State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman said 36 victims from 11 families are at the Balai Raya Kampung Batu Badak centre.

A further 14 victims from four families are at the Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Tandong centre.

He said two rivers in the state are at warning levels: Sungai Muar at Buloh Kasap, Segamat (8.41 metres) and Jeti Sungai Tekam, Segamat (3.76 metres).

Weather across all districts in Johor was reported as clear this morning.
