PM Anwar Ibrahim outlines separation of powers, tenure limits, and cash aid in his 2026 new year message, with STR payments starting Jan 20
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim outlined key legislative reforms and financial aid in his 2026 New Year Message today.
He announced the first Bill to be tabled this year will separate the powers of the Public Prosecutor and the Attorney General.
The government will also table and pass a Freedom of Information Bill in Parliament this year.
A bill to limit the Prime Minister’s tenure to a maximum of 10 years will be introduced as well.
Anwar called for a serious rollout of digital systems to enhance public service delivery.
He also confirmed a salary increase for judges after a decade without a raise.
For education, the government has allocated RM80 million to upgrade Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) and RM50 million for Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT).
On financial aid, Phase 1 payments for the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) will begin on 20 January.
A RM100 SARA Aid payment for every Malaysian citizen aged 18 and above will be credited on 9 February.
