Foreign photographers block KLCC lanes, locals frustrated

KLCC locals complain as foreign photographers and tour taxis block lanes for photoshoots, sparking calls for action

TOURISTS photographers at the KLCC area have long frustrated locals, and a recent incident shared on Threads has reignited concerns.

User Norain Hamid posted a clip showing a foreign photographer taking pictures of Indian tourists while blocking a lane.

The footage shows him directing the tourists’ poses and kneeling to capture low-angle shots, believed to be in front of the Petronas Twin Towers.

“They are way over the top. People have to swerve their cars to avoid them while they are taking photos. I don’t think Malaysians would ever have such a reckless mindset!” Norain wrote.

She urged locals to honk if they encounter street photographers blocking traffic.

“There were people honking at them just now, but still they acted unbothered,” she added.

The post drew attention from netizens tagging the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL), calling for stricter enforcement against street photographers, many of whom are foreigners.

Another concern highlighted is vehicles, often taxis or tour cars, parked while waiting for photo sessions, which can reduce lanes to a single passable track.

“What really annoys me is when there’s a car parked waiting for them to take photos, usually a taxi. Sometimes it even leaves only one lane passable,” Akmal commented.
