New Politics – a collaboration across the divide

KUALA LUMPUR: An Umno and a PAS politician have decided to jointly come out with a book titled New Politics, which is aimed at promoting a state of political maturity where moderation is key and extreme partisanship a thing of the past.
They are Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, the former Barisan Nasional MP for Temerloh and CEO of Global Movement of Moderates Foundation (GMMF), and Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, the PAS MP for Parit Buntar.
At a press conference at the GMMF office here today, they called on the rakyat to pose questions on any topic – religion, education, politics, etc – to them and these would be answered in their book, which is expected to be ready by the end of the year.
"I feel that this project is something very challenging as we want to bring our political discourse to a higher level," said Saifuddin.
Mujahid said that regardless of the problems faced by Malaysia, there are people who want the nation to move forward and for this, there is a need for politicians to decide on issues in the best interests of the nation.
He also said the book is not about PAS or Umno but their desire to promote a new way of politics where decisions are made based on one's own views.
