Joint police ops curb illegal racing
BUTTERWORTH: Weekly police integrated crime prevention operations in Pantai Bersih, Bagan Ajam here has curbed illegal motorcycle racing.
Seberang Prai Utara police chief, ACP Abdul Rahman Ibrahim said the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (Borr) in Pantai Bersih was no more the focal point of illegal racing by the "mat rempit".
Of late, there had been no illegal racing held in Borr.
"Prior to this, the Bagan Ajam Rest and Recreation area had become the lure of street gangs who turned up for illegal racing there, especially on weekend nights.
"However, since the weekly integrated crime prevention operations, illegal racing in the area has reduced drastically, and it can be said there are no longer such races currently.
"There are also no noisy groups gathering there anymore," he told reporters here today.
Meanwhile in another development, Abdul Rahman said during a four-hour integrated crime prevention operation which began at 10 last night, the police detained 14 people for various criminal offences, including drugs and commercial crime.
He said the police also seized 200 pirated video compact discs worth RM2,000 from a shop here. – Bernama
