KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit ended higher against the US dollar today on higher demand in line with regional performance, a dealer said.
At 5pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.6355/6385 against the greenback at 3.6200/6230 yesterday.
He said the bullish reading was influenced by the poor performance of the euro, engulfed by worries that Greece may default on debts.
"The euro was weighed down by the European Central Bank's bond-buying programme and the risk of Greece leaving the single currency in the near term," he told Bernama.
On the local front, the local note would, however, likely rise in the near term on stronger demand due to investor confidence in the country's long-term outlook, he said.
Meanwhile, the ringgit was quote mostly higher against other major currencies.
It weakened against the Singapore dollar to 2.6902/6942 from Monday's 2.6881/6921 and appreciated against the yen to 3.0392/0430 from 3.0469/0499 previously.
The local unit rose against the British pound to 5.4089/4148 from 5.4108/4167 yesterday and increased against the euro to 3.8831/8870 from 3.8926/8962 previously. – Bernama
