172 pondok schools not involved in extremism or militancy

KOTA BARU: Monitoring of 172 pondok-style Islamic educational institutions in the country showed that none of them were involved in acts of extremism or militancy, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Senator Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
The Advisory Board for Islamic Education Coordination (Lepai) conducted the monitoring following a threat by the Islamic State (IS) militant group to target Malaysia, he told reporters after opening a conference of eastern zone pondok school teachers here.
At the event, he handed over RM15.67 million to 72 pondok-style Islamic educational institutions in the east coast.
The contribution was part of RM25 million allocated for pondok schools which was contained in Budget 2015. – Bernama
