MCA seeks "good will payment" from Japanese government

KUALA LUMPUR: The Japanese government should make a "goodwill payment" to Malaysia for the suffering endured by sex slaves here during World War Two.
MCA Public Services and Complaints Department Head Datuk Seri Michael Chong said the Japanese government should acknowledge the fact that Malaysian women too had served as comfort women during the war, adding that an apology should be forthcoming on the issue.
"In view of this, we are seeking payment and justice for the victims who have endured emotional pain during the ordeal," Chong told reporters at Wisma MCA here today.
He added that the "good will payment" would also be channeled to charities and not for personal use.
Chong's comments comes in the wake of the agreement reached between Japan and Korea on the long standing comfort women issue between both countries.
The term "comfort women" refers to women who were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military during World War Two.
Under the agreement reached by both countries, Tokyo will give 1 billion yen (RM35.66 million) to a fund to help those who suffered.
