PETALING JAYA: It was a heart-warming meeting after 23 years when Nur Hamidah Nadjib met the rescuers who saved her from the 1993 Highland Towers incident.
Nur Hamidah, 24, who was rescued when she was just 18 months old, was reunited with one of her rescuers, Tan Sri Zaman Khan Rahim Khan, in a special interview with TV9 at Sri Pentas today morning.
Also present were Nur Hamidah's mother, Umi Rasyidah Khoiruman, 43, the only other survivor of the tragedy, and Fire and Rescue Department Senior Supt II Norizan Saad, the rescuer who received Nur Hamidah from Zaman Khan.
Zaman Khan was then the federal police Criminal Investigation Department director.
Nur Hamidah reached Malaysia from Surabaya, Indonesia, today to meet the Malaysian rescue team which saved her on that tragic day.
On Dec 11, 1993, a 12-storey block of the Highland Towers condominium in Taman Hillview, Ulu Kelang, collapsed after 10 days of continuous rain.
In the incident, 48 people were killed, resulting in a complete evacuation of the remaining two blocks due to safety concerns.
Blocks 2 and 3 of Highland Towers are still standing today, a grim but silent reminder of what happened all that years ago.
