18 charged with being Geng 08 members

KUALA LUMPUR: Eighteen men were charged in the sessions court yesterday with being members of an organised criminal group known as "Geng 08" between Jan 1 2015 and April 8 this year.
Geng 08 is believed to be responsible for several serious crimes in Kuala Lumpur, including murder and robbery.
The accused, aged between 19 and 38, are R. Nagarajan, R. Ganesh, K. Ron Raniel, K. Baramuruli, V. Anith Kumar, P. Sharveswaran, R. Alagendran Pillai, S. Kanagadran, M. Satish Varman, S. Shashi Kumar, G. Thiagu, S. Pandian, C. Navin Naidu, M. Neriendran, V. Shasi Kumar, B. Seleveraj, M. Parwin dan L. Pravin Kumar.
They were charged under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years.
The charge was read out in Tamil before judge Datuk Zainal Abidin Kamarudin. No plea was recorded as the case come under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
The men were also not allowed bail as they were detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012.
Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Fadzlan Mohd Noor persecuted while 11 of them were represented by Najib Zakaria, K. Komagan, Yeoh Siang Thing, Harpal Singh, M. Yoshini, K. Muralid-haran and S. Narasimhan.
The remaining seven were unrepresented.
