IPOH: Police have uncovered a new tactic used by traffickers to bring in drugs by packing it in sachets and passing it off as mango powder.
Perak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department chief ACP R. Ravi Chandran said the yellow coloured attractive sachets containing methamphetamine could be passed off as a fruit drink mix since the packets were printed with the words "Organic Whole Food Mango Powder".
"The public should check sachets especially when it comes in attractive packets.
"Consumers could eventually be addicted to the drugs after consuming the powder," he told a press conference here today.
The latest tactic was exposed after a police team surrounded a car at a parking lot of a business premise in Greentown at 5.45pm on Sunday.
Ravi Chandran said police arrested a 28-year-old businessman from Kuala Lumpur and found the 100 sachets with a total weight of 1,285 grammes worth RM89,950.
He said police also recovered two passports belonging to the suspect and his car.
Each sachet containing 12 grammes of the drugs was to be sold at RM400.
The man had been remanded until Nov 20 to facilitate investigations into the case.
