Road connecting Teluk Bahang to reopen by Saturday
BALIK PULAU: The road structure which collapsed last week along Jalan Ujung Batu in Teluk Bahang is scheduled to be repaired and fully operational in five days.
State public utilities and transport exco Lim Hock Seng said the road which was closed to heavy vehicles from last week due to landslide and subsequent collapse was expected to be opened by Nov 19.
"There is no exact time when it will be opened but as soon as all works are completed, it will be re-opened as we do not want to prolong the matter," he said during a site visit to the area today.
Currently, the most difficult part of rebuilding the collapsed road structure and covering the landslide area has been conducted, including slope protection.
"The relevant works will prevent another landslide from recurring if heavy rain hits the area again," said Lim.
The landslide and road collapse on Nov 7 had caused the people of Teluk Bahang to be cut off from the city centre as the road is the main access from the township to the city.
It also caused hundreds of people, including SPM candidates and workers to be stranded at both ends.
Currently, the road is only open to motorcyclists at certain times under the supervision of the authorities.
Meanwhile, Lim said the road structure collapse in Mount Erskine was currently under construction.
