"THERE'S no food at home ... we have no money to buy food either." These words uttered by a young boy tugged at the heartstrings of a woman, resulting in a heartbreaking Facebook post which has now gone viral.
The woman, Hamiatie Abd Hamid, related a sad encounter of a young boy and his seven-month-old sibling whom she found sitting all alone on a sidewalk in Tawau, Sabah.
According to Hamiatie, she was shocked to find a baby crying and crawling on the pavement unsupervised. When she approached, she noticed the elder brother keeping a watchful eye on his sibling and letting the baby suck his thumb to stop the baby's cries.
When she asked where their parents were, the boy said their mother was not around and their father had been caught by the police as he did not have an IC.
As for why they did not stay at home, the boy simply answered that there was no food at home.
Hamiatie immediately bought them some bread and milk and left with a heavy heart.
Distressed by the incident, she took to Facebook to share her thoughts.
"Usually, these street kids would run round asking people for money, but this boy did not bother anyone at all," she wrote, adding that she preferred to give them food instead of cash as the money could be misused.
The post has since been shared more than 7,000 times, with many netizens expressing pity for the children and asking God to protect them.
