GEORGE TOWN: Hundreds of Tanjung Court condominium residents in Bandar Baru Air Itam here today held a "Black Sunday" protest against their property management company.
Their spokesman, K. Suthakar, said the 3,000-odd residents were unhappy with the management for providing poor service despite increasing the maintenance fees.
He said residents were paying RM93.50 currently and had paid RM13 million to the management since 1993 while questioning them on where the money gone.
He said some problems they are facing include water disruptions due to water pump breakdown and insufficient funds to replace ageing lifts.
"The exterior wall has not been repainted as well but blocks in low-cost units have been painted though," he said to thunderous applause from residents present.
Suthakar said he was disappointed with how the property was managed and urged the Residents Association (RA) to take over the management.
He added residents also hoped Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng would intervene in the matter.
Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh, who was present said this was an internal management problem and the state was unable to intervene.
He, however, said the state understood their predicament and the grouses had been conveyed to Lim, adding the latter pledged his support to assist.
"We can choose not to be here but we still come to lend support to all of you," he said accompanied by Paya Terubong assemblyman Yeoh Soon Hin and Seri Delima assemblyman R. S. N. Rayer.
The condominium has 14 blocks with a total of 672 units.
