Ease switch to individual water meters
WE were one of the early birds to apply for migration from bulk meter to individual meters in 2006. Our request was then left in abeyance as we were unable to meet some of the conditions imposed by Syabas.
For instance, I cannot see the rationale to get 100% consent from owners or to direct owners to dismantle their water filters installed near the meters. These conditions are superfluous and redundant.
Surely, no owner will object to migrating to individual meters so that they pay 75 sen instead of the current RM1.38 per cu m for their water. Therefore, to seek their consent is unnecessary.
Furthermore, it is unreasonable to demand each owner to pay a deposit since the deposit has already been paid by the management.
If Syabas is sincere to offer residential rates for condo dwellers, they should make it easier for condo managements who opt to migrate to individual meters. They could just bill the management 75 sen per cu m for water used by all the residents.
Condo management can continue to do all the paper and administrative work like billing, invoicing, collection, maintenance and trouble shooting in case the pumps break down, etc.
This will obviously save Syabas all the workload and unnecessary overheads.
We urge Syabas to have a more friendly policy to encourage condos and apartments to enjoy similar rates like those in landed properties.
