26,000 Kad Ceria distributed to low, middle income folk in Labuan

LABUAN: The government distributed 26,000 ‘Kad Ceria’ (discount cards) to eligible folks here as part of its efforts to ease the financial burden of low and middle income earners.
Federal Territories Minister Datuk Sri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said one million cards were prepared by the government for the federal territories’ eligible citizens.
“This Kad Ceria was branded from the Loyalty Card we launched previously, and it is aimed at helping the people under the low and medium bracket to cope with the high cost of living,” he told reporters after launching the Kad Ceria at Bataras Hypermarket here today.
He said 1,124 companies involving 1,352 branches in all federal territory parliamentary constituencies gave their cooperation to his ministry by offering the discount directly to the Kad Ceria holder.
“We are aiming the number of merchants in the federal territory of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan taking part in the programmes to increase to 5,000 and 10, 000 end of July this year.
“For Labuan, 45 business firms including hotels, hypermarkets, boutiques, textiles, restaurants, mobile phones shops and tailor are taking part in this programme,” he said.
Hypermarkets and supermarkets involved in the programme are Bataras Hypermarket, D’ One Mart Labuan Sdn Bhd and Hap Huat Superstore, while hotels include Dorsett Grand Hotel, Billion Waterfront Hotel, Aifa Hotel and Tiara Hotel.
Tengku Adnan said the Kad Ceria programme would be expanded to wet and dry markets, night market, food truck and mobile business activities and not confined only to merchants.
He also said the I Wilayah Fair Price application introduced in Kuala Lumpur would be expanded to Labuan.
“The I Wilayah Fair Price app is for the people to channel information on shops offering low price,” he said. — Bernama
