Cardiff City FC was honoured when a special visitor in the person of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad turned up to watch and cheer for the team when it played against Fulham last weekend.
Mahathir, who was accompanied by club owner Tan Sri Vincent Tan, was taken on a tour of the stadium and met Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ahead of the Premier League game which saw Cardiff trounce Fulham 3-1.
“This is my second visit to Cardiff, I came here a long time ago on an offshore visit, said Mahathir.
He recalled the last time he attended a football match was at Accrington FC, shortly after the second world war.
“I came back as I wanted to see Cardiff win the game, a crucial one which I hope will help push Cardiff up the league.
“Football is a top sport in Malaysia where many people play the game, although we don’t play it very well,” added Mahathir.
Meanwhile, Tan said Cardiff was very pleased to have Mahathir cheer for the club and bring it good luck.
Tan had earlier visited the NSPCC Cardiff branch, one of the many “Thanks a Million” locally based charities to benefit from his donations.
“I am very happy to be able to give some small help to these charities.
“I think that this is good for us and good for the charities,” Tan said.
“We want to be good corporate citizens and to give back to society when we can,” he added.
