Azmin accentuates importance of embracing true spirit of sovereignty

SHAH ALAM: The post-independence generation should embrace the true spirit of sovereignty, said Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
He said independence did not mean merely being free from military grip, but one must also be liberated in mind, soul and spirit.
"We do not want the people's minds and souls to be imprisoned until they have lost their courage of conviction. This is what the late (prime minister) Tunku Abdul Rahman meant when he made the proclamation of independence," he said in a speech during the state's monthly assembly today.
The Selangor Jalur Gemilang campaign "Kibarkan Jalur Gemilang 2017" was also launched during the assembly.
He went on to say that as the 'heirs of independence', the post-independence generation is also responsible for maintaining and strengthening the economy.
Azmin also said the building of infrastructure should complement the development of a national identity.
He also said the state's progress was the result of the sacrifices of families and the security personnel who had defended the nation's sovereignty.
