Call for public to donate blood to stock supply for Aidilfitri

KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu Health director Dr Mohammad Omar today called on the public, especially in Kuala Terengganu, to donate blood to ensure that the blood supply at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) Blood Bank Unit is sufficient throughout Aidilfitri.
He said the hospital's daily requirement was between 40 to 45 pints of blood but the amount would increase to 50 to 60 pints each day during the festive season.
"So far, the blood supply in HSNZ is still sufficient, but preparations must be made in order to stock the blood supply to the optimum level as HSNZ is the main hospital in Terengganu which often receives referral and emergency cases from other hospitals.
"Normally, this amount can be accommodated from regular donors, but during Ramadan most of these regular donors were absent.
"That is why, we are appealing to the public, especially Muslims, to come forward to donate blood at nearly 30 mosques across the country after the Tarawih prayers," he told Bernama today.
Besides mosques, blood donation campaigns were also being held at various public locations, such as in shopping malls, as well as public and private varsities. — Bernama
