KUANTAN: Police today detained a woman with the title of "Datin" believed to be involved in a syndicate offering and selling the non-existent Pahang state awards and medals through Facebook.
State Commercial Crimes Investigation Department chief Supt Mohd Wazir Mohd Yusof said the 60-year-old woman from Pulau Gadong, Malacca was detained at the Malim police station, Jalan PPM 9, Malacca at 3pm when she turned up to give a statement.
"The Datin was nabbed following a report by a police inspector who saw a posting on a Facebook account offering and selling the fake awards and medals.
"The entry was posted by a Facebook account owner stating 'Who wants to take the Pahang Datuk or Datuk Seri title etc can see me at Kuantan, Pahang on 23/2/2018, the place will be informed later'," he told reporters here today.
Mohd Wazir said police also seized a Xiaomi mobile phone and two sim cards from the woman and the case was being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 3(1) Pahang Emblems, Titles or Awards (Prevention of Improper Use) Enactment 2017.
He said police believed that the Datin had links with two other suspects, a 39-year-old woman and a 41-year-old man who were arrested in the capital earlier this month, for alleged involvement in the activity.
Prior to this, police also nabbed the Datin's two accomplices in separate raids for advertising the sale of "Datuk" and "Datuk Seri" titles with prices of RM180,000 to RM400,000 on social media sites. — Bernama
