JOHOR BARU: Dennis Muhammad Abdullah, future husband of Johor Princess Tunku Tun Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Sultan Ibrahim, began learning about Islam in 2014.
Since then, the 28-year-old Dutchman said he would seek views and advice about the religion from his Muslim friends in Amsterdam, including asking them to take him to the mosque.
"I wanted to see and hear them perform the prayers in the mosque and to get their advice on Islamic teachings and other mandatory rituals," he said in a statement issued by the Royal Press Office (RPO) here today.
The RPO is the official media and communication office of the Johor Royal Family.
Dennis Muhammad, who embraced Islam on May 31, 2015, at the Johor Baru Kadi Office, said he also read numerous references on Islam on the Internet to increase his knowledge.
He said after receiving the blessing of the Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar to marry Tunku Tun Aminah, he was subsequently ordered by the Sultan to study Islam more intensively.
"I started attending Fardhu Ain classes and tried to memorise short chapters (surah) of the Quran since early this year. I have been fasting for the whole month of Ramadan since 2015 and often went to the mosque to join the congregation in performing Tarawih prayers.
"Not only that, I am also interested in learning Jawi, but, I was advised by many scholars not to rush myself and to study the religion slowly," said Dennis Muhammad.
"My heart opens up to accept Islam because I can feel that I have become more calm and at peace with myself. I am grateful to Allah for giving me the opportunity to learn and follow the religion without any obstacles.
"My parents have also been supportive of me being a Muslim," he added. — Bernama
