Former clerk ordered to enter defence in CBT case

PETALING JAYA: The sessions court here today ordered a former clerk of a law firm to enter her defence on a charge of committing criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving more than RM650,000 five years ago.
Judge Hilmiah Yusuf made the decision after finding the prosecution had proven a prima facie case against Norliza Aizul Zulkifli, 38, and fixed Mar 13 and 15 for the accused to defend herself.
According to the charge sheet, the woman, who was working as a clerk at the David Lingam & Co and entrusted to handle a CIMB bank account, had committed CBT by inducing lawyer S. S. David Lingam to approve payments to non-subscribers of the firm involving 15 cheques totaling RM657,932.
She was alleged to have committed the offence at David Lingam & Co, 16-20, Level 1, Jalan PJS 9/2, Bandar Sunway here, between Jan 25, 2013 and March 6, 2014.
The charge under Section 408 of the Penal Code provides for a maximum jail term of 10 years, or whipping, or fine if convicted.
Six prosecution witnesses were called to testify in the trial of the case.
Deputy public prosecutor Shafiq Hashim appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by counsel Wan Shahrizal Wan Ladin. — Bernama
