LANGKAWI: The contest for the Ayer Hangat seat, one of the two state seats in the Langkawi parliamentary constituency, in the 14th general election (GE14) involves a fight between a former teacher, his student and a woman.
Retired teacher Juhari Bulat, who is PKR-PPBM candidate, is challenging former student, who is incumbent Datuk Mohd Rawi Abdul Hamid, of BN, and Azlina Azinan, of PAS, for the seat in a three-cornered fight.
"Politics is in our blood," said Juhari, 60, when met by reporters after their names were announced as election candidates for the Ayer Hangat state seat by the returning officer after nomination closed today.
Juhari and Mohd Rawi were also seen hugging each other after the announcement.
Mohd Rawi said he would continue to respect Juhari, who was permanent chairman of Langkawi Umno before leaving the party.
"He is not just a school teacher, but also my teacher in politics," he said.
Ayer Hangat has 21,297 voters. — Bernama
