KPDNKK urged to find new ways to control prices

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) has been urged to find new ways in controlling prices of goods to reduce burden on the people.
Senator Datuk Abdullah Mat Yasim said KPDNKK should monitor all goods available in the market instead of just focusing on the controlled items.
"We are just monitoring the prices of items listed under the price control scheme while the prices of uncontrolled items are left unchecked, this is not right.
"KPDNKK should also control the prices of uncontrolled goods. Any increase in price and costs will affect the federal government," he said when debating the Supply Bill 2018 in the Senate here today.
Abdullah said the price hikes on goods were unreasonable and should be monitored from time to time because traders would take advantage by raising the price of goods every time a salary increase was announced.
Meanwhile, Abdullah proposed that the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project be extended further to Rantau Panjang, Kelantan instead of having the last station at Pengkalan Kubor, Tumpat.
The move would generate socio economic benefits for the local communities as it was near the border checkpoint between the two countries, namely Sungai Golok, Thailand.
The sitting continues tomorrow. — Bernama
