IPOH: The Perak Water Board (LAP) is the first state statutory body in the country to receive the Standard Accounting System For Government Agencies (SAGA) Compliance Certificate for good financial management.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the award was presented by Accountant-General Saat Esa at the national-level SAGA Compliance Certificate 2017 award presentation ceremony held in Penang on Nov 22.
"The certification is for LAP's good account management, it does not have any serious debts...in fact, LAP is a water board with the best management in the country," he told reporters after chairing a LAP meeting here today.
In a separate development, Zambry said as of Nov 28, a total of 11,502 poor families and 1,954 houses of worship in the state had received water subsidies from LAP.
He added that LAP had also carried out corporate social responsibility programmes through 33 projects which provided water supply to 166 homes and one religious school.
Meanwhile, Zambry said the state government was strict about cases involving losses from non-revenue water (NRW) for animal husbandry and manufacturing purposes.
"There are two cases (of water theft) which are still in court, which involves illegal poultry breeding, and several other cases are still being investigated," he said.
The Mentri Besar said the state government would not compromise with anyone in these cases as it affected LAP's revenue and denied residents in affected areas of good water supply.
"Water thefts cause low water pressure in the area as it involves a large quantity of water. It also affects LAP's revenue, for instance, the water usage of large factories can amount to about RM100,000 a month," he said. — Bernama
