MIC Youth challenges Selangor govt to clarify SJKT Ladang Coalfields issue

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC Youth has challenged the Selangor state government to answer all questions on the issue relating to the construction of the Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Ladang Coalfields, Kuala Selangor within three days.
MIC information chief P. Punithan said the issue, as well as that concerning hostels for the children of farmers, were promised since 2012, causing distrust of the state government for not fulfilling their pledges.
"The hopes of the Ladang Coalfields' children to study in the fully residential Tamil school have been dashed," he told a news conference at the MIC headquarters here today.
The school construction on a 1.6ha, which was announced by the then Selangor menteri besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim in 2012, entailed 18 classrooms, libraries, science laboratories and computers, canteen and an 800-capacity hall with a total allocation of RM4 million.
He said in 2016, however, the school construction approved by the state government was only for six classrooms, teachers' room, library and canteen with an allocation of RM4 million.
Punithan said RM7 million was initially allocated for the construction of the hostel near SJKT Coalfields on a 3.1ha site.
Surprisingly Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali when tabling the 2017 state budget had planned to develop the hostel on a parcel of government land next to SJKT Midlands in Section 7, Shah Alam with an allocation of RM 4 million, he said and questioned the previous RM7 million allocation.
Asked if there were elements of corruption involved, Punithan said he would replied on the matter after Tuesday next week.
“We are committed in resolving this issue,” he added. — Bernama
