KUALA LUMPUR: Indonesia's head coach Luis Milla was dissatisfied with the performance of his boys despite defeating Timor Leste 1-0 in the third Group B match of the men's football competition in the 2017 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games (KL2017) at the Selayang Stadium, here today.
He said the young "Garudas" (Under-22 team) would have won the game by a huge margin if the players had fully utilised the goal scoring chances, especially in the second half of the match.
Milla also claimed that the poor pitch condition and aggressive play by their opponents had made it harder for his charges to add more goals.
"Our performance in today's match dropped a little bit compared to our previous match against the Philippines and the condition of the pitch was not good compared to the Shah Alam Stadium where we beat the Philippines 3-0, but I'm still glad that we walked away with three important points," Milla told reporters via an interpreter after the match.
Meanwhile, Timor Leste's coach, Kim Shin Hwan slammed his charges for showcasing a rough display towards the end of the match which saw their defender, Filipe Oliveira received the marching orders from referee, Nagor Amir Noor Mohamed.
"For me, the problem of this team is that they do not have good discipline and I will not use the player who received the red card in today's match for our next match and I hope today's defeat serves as a lesson for the players not to repeat the same mistakes although our chances to semifinals is almost over," said the South Korean who took charge of the team since 2001.
Indonesian striker, Marinus Mariyanto Wanewar struck the only goal in the match in the 21st minute after receiving a pass from Septian David Maulana. — Bernama
