BALIK PULAU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak today relived the special moment when his father, the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, graced the opening of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Balik Pulau (SMKSBP) here, 50 years ago.
Najib came to the same school today to grace its golden jubilee celebration.
In his brief speech, the prime minister called on the students, teachers and parents to remember the history and appreciate what the country had achieved today.
"Some countries gained independence earlier than us, but had not progressed like us.
"This is a success that we must always remember, so that we will appreciate our history more, and even more, our future," he said.
Najib also expressed hope that as the school celebrates its 50th anniversary, the students, teachers and parents, would be motivated to create more success stories in the future.
SMKSBP, formerly known as Sekolah Menengah Genting, was established on Jan 10, 1965, before being renamed and officially opened on April 17, 1969, by Tun Abdul Razak, who was then the Deputy Prime Minister. — Bernama
