JOHOR BARU: The Sabah community has contributed significantly to the development of Johor, especially in the Pasir Gudang industrial area, said Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
He said the state government recognised the major role and contribution of the Sabahans towards the development of Johor.
"Many of them are working in the manufacturing sectors and it is impossible for Pasir Gudang to achieve its current success without the important role of Sabahans," he said at the Sabah community gathering at Taman Bukit Dahlia, here last night.
He said the state government was concerned with the welfare and well-being of the people who came from other states by ensuring all strata of society regardless of their background received assistance accordingly.
The socio economic status of the Sabah community had improved tremendously compared to 20 or 10 years ago, he said.
"In the past, the Sabahans were not given attention or recognised for their role but after I became Mentri Besar, little by little it all changed. So don't let them (opposition) who have never appeared all this while, influence us," he said.
Mohamed Khaled, who is also Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, also wanted the Sabahans to be involved meaningfully and effectively in BN to ensure more assistance could be provided to the community.
"The number of voters among the Sabahans is less than 2,000 and although it is not as large as other communities, I will continue to help them and act as the representative of those in Pasir Gudang," he said.
Meanwhile Sabah community chief Ibrahim Taib said the state government, led by Mohamed Khaled, was always concerned and involved in the development and well-being of the Sabahans in the state in ensuring their aspirations were realised.
In the 14th general election, Mohamed Khaled is defending the Permas state seat apart from contesting the Pasir Gudang parliamentary constituency. — Bernama
