PETALING JAYA: Selangor Crown Prince Tengku Amir Shah (pix) has confirmed that he will be the next Selangor Football Association (FAS) president.
In a statement released by the Selangor palace today, Tengku Amir confirmed that he was offered the post following the departure of Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal who helmed the FAS top post for 21 months.
"The FAS has to move past all the current troubles and wrangles that are being faced.
"We have to move forward and make changes thoroughly in returning the Red Giant's glory days.
"This is not the time for us to play the blame game and finding fault, relating to the previous administration," he said.
Tengku Amir added that he's committed and will back the development of the sport, leading projects like the Selangor Grassroots League to nurture young talents, and to motivate FAS to 'rise again'.
"FAS requires support from the dedicated people and fans who will drive the revamp efforts forward," he added.
Last year, Tengku Amir also expressed his concern as he spoke about rejuvenating Selangor football.
Subahan has expressed his intention to step down after 21 months, due to his other commitments as president of the Malaysian Hockey Confederation and deputy president of the Football Association of Malaysia.
One of Tengku Amir's main tasks as new president would be to regain the use of the Shah Alam Stadium.
Selangor was barred from using the Shah Alam ground after clashing with the state government and have been nomads ever since.
Last year, they played at the Selayang Stadium and are sharing the Cheras Stadium with Kuala Lumpur FA this year.
