Toddler dies of suspected HFMD
KUALA LUMPUR: A toddler, aged two years and five months suspected to have been afflicted with hand, foot, mouth disease (HFMD), died at the Sibu Hospital today.
According to a statement by Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pix) the victim from Kampung Pangtray, Daro in Mukah, Sarawak, came down with fever on Tuesday (July 24) and showed signs of rashes on the palms and feet, as well as ulcers in the mouth the next day.
"The child was taken to the Daro Health Clinic on Wednesday and was diagnosed with suspected HFMD and had received treatment. The mother was advised to seek immediate treatment if her child still did not recover.
"The child was taken to the Emergency and Trauma Department of the Daro Hospital last night due to unstable condition before being referred to the Sibu Hospital for further treatment. However, the child was pronounced dead at the same hospital at 2.08am," he said.
Dr Noor Hisham said clinical samples were taken to ascertain the cause of death. — Bernama
