Viral list of cabinet ministers is inaccurate
PETALING JAYA: Less than a day after the Istana Negara confirmed that the remaining ministers and deputies will be sworn in on Monday, a list purportedly naming the full cabinet members has surfaced on social media.
The authenticity of the list, which was classified as "secret", however, remains doubtful, with the existence of a Federal Territories (FT) Minister and a number of names contradicting the previously rumoured lineup.
Parti Amanah Negara's Khalid Samad is named as the supposed FT Minister, a post which several top politicians within the Pakatan Harapan (PH) camp have claimed to be unnecessary.
A source confirmed that there would not be such a post as "it is redundant considering all the FT MPs are from the ruling government".
The leaked cabinet list named 28 ministries in total, including the posts of Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, but only 27 names, with Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail named as both the deputy premier and Women, Family and Community Development Minister.
Interestingly, of the 24 deputy ministers' names listed, there was none for the defence, economic affairs and foreign ministries.
There will also supposedly be a Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of national unity and social welfare to be helmed by PPBM's Dr Md Farid Md Rafik despite the absence of a minister for the post.
This vacancy is however expected to be filled by Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) chairman P. Waytha Moorthy if he is appointed as a Senator.
Other prominent names said to be appointed as ministers include PH chief secretary Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah (Foreign Minister), PPBM Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Youth and Sports Minister), PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail (Consumer Affairs Minister), Dr Xavier Jayakumar (Water, Land and Natural Resources Minister) and DAP's Teresa Kok (Primary Industries Minister).
Among those purportedly making the deputy minister list are former Selangor assembly speaker Hannah Yeoh (deputy to Wan Azizah at the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry), PKR strategic planning director Sim Tze Tzin (Agriculture Ministry) and DAP's Bangi MP Ong Kian Ming (International Trade and Industry Ministry).
When contacted, Ong said he would not comment on speculations, and asked that the media wait for the official announcement by Mahathir soon.
Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian, who will supposedly be given the Works Minister position, similarly did not want to confirm the authenticity of the leaked cabinet members but said he would be honoured to hold the portfolio assuming the list is true.
"Let Mahathir announce first, I don't want to comment whether or not I was approached for the portfolio. But let's say it is genuine, then I am very happy because it is only relevant that the Works Minister is either from Sabah or Sarawak as we are really far behind in terms of development and infrastructure.
"A lot of roads needed to be constructed here, especially in the interiors. That will be very relevant, and this will be my priority," he told theSun.
