PORT DICKSON: WikiLeaks has rubbished claims that it published details of PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's (pix) alleged offshore accounts.
In a message posted on its Twitter account, the whistleblower said it has not published anything on Anwar's bank accounts.
"WikiLeaks has published significant information about Malaysian politicians but not Mr. Ibrahim's bank accounts. (link: https://wikileaks.org/plusd) wikileaks.org/plus.
"Claims spread in Malaysia that @WikiLeaks published @anwaribrahim's bank account details are false.
"Liang Tech (Teck) Meng is pushing a fabrication," it said on the microblogging site today.
It was reported that Gerakan's former Simpang Renggam MP Liang Teck Meng claimed that according to Wikileaks, Anwar has numerous accounts in the United States, Singapore, China and Israel.
Liang was reported as saying that all the accounts posted on Wikileaks had full details of its owner, status, passport number, type of bank account, date the account was opened as well as the maturity date.
The report also listed the details of the alleged 20 accounts.
However, PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil responded by saying that the false claim was an old one made in 2013.
He warned that the party would act against those who continue to spread such unverified information through social media in an attempt to discredit Anwar who is Pakatan Harapan's candidate for the Port Dickson by-election.
Gerakan which was previously part of Barisan Nasional, left the coalition to be independent after it failed to win a single seat in the 14th general election.
Prior to that, Liang had been one of the only two federal lawmakers from the party.
