Isu tekanan air rendah di USM kampus nibong tebal selesai hujung bulan ini

NIBONG TEBAL: Masalah tekanan air rendah yang membelenggu hampir 4,000 warga Kampus Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Nibong Tebal, di sini sejak 10 tahun lepas dijangka selesai tidak lami lagi selepas projek menaik taraf sistem bekalan air bersih siap hujung bulan ini.

Timbalan Menteri Kerja Raya Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan berkata projek berkenaan sudah mencapai kemajuan 83 peratus dan dapat disiapkan pada 30 Julai ini, lebih awal dari jadual asal.

Beliau berkata projek bernilai RM6.15 juta yang bermula pada 28 Feb tahun lepas, sepatunya siap pada 26 Ogos tahun ini.

“Projek ini dilaksanakan susulan masalah tekanan air rendah di bawah nilai 14 psi (per inci persegi) sejak 10 tahun lepas.

“Antara skop projek ini termasuklah pembinaan tangki air berkapasiti 1.597 juta liter, tangki sedutan 795,000 liter dan rumah pam di samping kerja-kerja elektrik serta mekanikal yang berkaitan,” katanya kepada pemberita selepas meninjau kemajuan projek itu di sini hari ini.

Ahmad berkata apabila projek itu siap nanti, ia dapat menampung keperluan bekalan air bersih di Kampus USM Nibong Tebal yang menduduki kawasan seluas 147 hektar melibatkan 3,900 penghuni.

Menurut beliau, tangki air tersebut direka bentuk dari jenis Glass Fused Steel-Tank dan mempunyai ketinggian 30 meter.

“Punca air untuk disalurkan ke rumah pam seterusnya ke tangki itu diperoleh daripada loji air di Bukit Minyak. Jika bekalan air terputus, tangki ini boleh menampung kegunaan untuk dua hari penuh,” katanya.
