PETALING JAYA: Johor Port Bhd, a member of MMC Group, together with a feeder consortium comprising Sea Navigator, MTT, Latitude and LKC, recently held a roadshow in Singapore on “Creating Pathways to the Indonesian Outport Business”.
The roadshow was an initiative by Johor Port to develop and secure container throughput volume beyond the usual port boundaries by tapping into the Indonesian outport market.
It was held on Dec 7 with the primary objective of laying the groundwork for potential feeder operators to establish the first leg connectivity to tranship intra Asia cargoes from Batam Hinterland to Pasir Gudang.
More than 50 guests from major ocean shipping lines, non-vessel operating common carriers and Indonesian shippers such as Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper and Riau Andalan Pulp & Paper attended the event. Also present were Mohammad Iqbal of PT Persero Batam and Dendi Gustinadar from BP Batam.
Johor Port is an integrated,multi-purpose port located in the eastern part of Johor providing a comprehensive range of port services to meet the needs of all port users. The port operates five terminals with 24 berths totalling 4.9km which cater to containers, dry bulk, break bulk and liquid activities and is recognised as the “Southern Gateway Multipurpose Port” in this region.
As part of the Creating Pathways to the Indonesian Outport Business initiative, Johor Port has ensured that its facilities are geared up to handle inbound and outbound transhipment containers in and out of Batam. Main line operators that are currently calling Pasir Gudang are offering excellent connectivity and coverage for the intra Asia region.
Johor Port plans to add connectivity to South Asia and the Middle East via its terminal with feeder operators such as Sea Navigator, MTT, Latitude and LKC providing two sailings weekly between Batam and Pasir Gudang.
More weekly sailings will be added once cargo throughput volume increases and the feeder operators will offer a much more competitive freight comparatively to moving the cargoes via other hubs for transhipment.
