“I’m a fresh graduate with no prior work experience, but isn’t RM1,900 too low for a degree holder?”
THE fresh graduate salary topic in Malaysia has always been a topic of discussion— with a study last year stating that more than 65% of Malaysian degree holders earn less than RM3,000 a month.
In a Threads post, @_lng562 shared that she recently went for a job interview and received RM1,900 salary offer.
She was also informed by the company that the salary might be increased after she passes her probation.
“But they said there might be an increment after the probation period.”
She added that she was unsure if the RM1,900 salary was reasonable for a degree holder but understood that she had no prior work experience.
“Or am I being too demanding? Someone please enlighten me because I really don’t know how these things work.”

Her question has since brought more than 200 comments, some suggesting she take up the offer due to her lack of experience. While others advised her not to get low-balled and to choose a company that offers at least RM2,500.
“To be honest, nowadays too many fresh grad with degree but have 0 skill. In my opinion, yes it is a low wage. But if you have 0 working experience, it is better than nothing. Try to understand the work flow, how the company operates. When the time comes, find better place with better payment,” commented _kucengg.
“Nooo please don’t accept. I’m also a fresh grad, and honestly offers 2.5k and above are possible. Jangan rushing tauu, take your time and find a better company. I started work Alhamdulillah above the minimum degree starter range, so I promise you there are better options out there. You deserve more, really,” encouraged zkyhamrh.
