Second phase of civil service pay rise under SSPA begins

The second phase of the SSPA salary adjustment takes effect, with a 7% increase for management and 3% for top management, aiming to boost public service excellence

KUALA LUMPUR: The second phase of the new salary adjustment under the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) begins today.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said the adjustment reflects the MADANI Government’s commitment to civil servants’ welfare and service delivery.

“Alhamdulillah, as promised by the MADANI Government, today, 22 Jan 2026, is the date for the new salary increase for Phase Two under SSPA,” he said in a Facebook post.

He hoped the new salaries would provide relief and advised civil servants to spend prudently and prioritise savings.

“May it be a catalyst for the continued excellence of the public service,” he added.

Civil servants who opted for SSPA receive the Phase Two adjustment in their salary payment starting today.

The adjustment is effective from 1 January 2026, with payment made on the regular January pay date.

The second phase continues the SSPA increase announced in 2024, involving an overall 15% for the Implementation Group and the Management and Professional Group, and 7% for the Top Management Group.

Under Phase Two, the Management and Professional Group receives an additional 7% increase, while the Top Management Group receives a 3% adjustment.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim previously announced a civil service salary increase of over 13% starting December 2024, among the highest in the nation’s history.
