Khairul Aming unveils Rembayung, his RM4mil, 250-pax kampung-themed restaurant opening in KL in January
POPULAR entrepreneur and influencer Khairul Aming has announced the expansion of his food empire — from selling ready-to-eat products to opening his first-ever restaurant in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
Khairul revealed in a TikTok video that construction of his restaurant, Rembayung, has been completed after a year and is set to open its doors in January.
“With a capital of RM4 million, we built the restaurant from scratch on an 8,000 sq ft plot of empty land in Kampung Baru.
“This is the biggest investment I have made for a single project. After 10 years in the online world, I am finally ready to step into the offline world. This is the start of my plan for the next 10 years,” he captioned in his video.

Said to feature a “semi-glass house concept” with a warehouse-like exterior, Khairul shared that the eatery will be able to accommodate 250 people at a time across two floors.
“For the kitchen, more than half a million ringgit was spent to build a comfortable space for our chefs, complete with the best cooking equipment available,” he added.
As for the interior, Khairul said the restaurant’s aesthetics will feature an elevated kampung element in the city, emphasising that he wants customers to have a distinctive dining experience reminiscent of eating in a traditional kampung home.
In addition, Khairul mentioned that up to 50 local staff members were hired to work at his first-ever eatery — but in a surprising twist, the applicants did not know they would be working for the well-known entrepreneur himself.
“They only found out after they passed their interviews,” he said.
Once the hiring process was completed, Khairul and his team immediately got to work — practising for the grand opening using what he termed a “training and simulation” process to ensure everything runs smoothly on the day.
“This is the result of a year’s worth of hard work, and who would have thought that I would start off cooking on the floor and, 10 years later, build my own restaurant in the middle of Kuala Lumpur and provide opportunities to 50 Malaysians.
“I hope Rembayung will attract people from around the world to come and taste our food,” he concluded in his video.
The video received positive attention shortly after being posted, with netizens expressing excitement and pride over the opening of Khairul’s first restaurant.
