A pregnant woman’s bus encounter with a kind senior sparks praise and calls for more empathy in public spaces
IT costs nothing to be kind — and when kindness comes from a stranger, it feels even more meaningful.
Fatihah Nuraina, a pregnant woman, shared on Threads that she felt dizzy shortly after boarding a bus where all the seats were already taken. Having just stepped on, she leaned against a pole, hoping to steady herself.
Moments later, a Chinese woman noticed her and asked gently, “Are you okay?” The stranger then approached another passenger and asked him to give up his seat, saying, “She’s pregnant.”
Although Fatihah initially declined the offer, saying she was fine, the woman insisted and held her arm until she was seated.
“Thank you for your kindness, auntie,” Fatihah wrote in her post, which quickly resonated with netizens.
Many commenters praised the woman’s actions, with some noting that more people need the courage to speak up for vulnerable groups in public spaces.
One senior citizen shared that the elderly often become quiet guardians of those in need.
“Malaysians are good people. Blessings to seniors who stay fit — they set a good example and send positive messages to others to stay healthy too,” she said.
Another user, Adnin Sani, commented that she hopes to be like the kind woman, though her offers to give up seats are often declined by pregnant passengers.
Responding to this, Fatihah explained that she too usually refuses seats when her journey is short, sometimes just five minutes.
“However, the other day it was an elderly woman who offered me her seat on the train,” she added. “Meanwhile, the younger passengers simply looked away.”
