Malaysian man supports govt move for six-year-olds in Year One, urges acceptance of change.
FOLLOWING the government’s announcement allowing the admission of six-year-olds into Standard One classrooms starting next year, many parents have expressed mixed reactions, with most opposing the move.
However, one man shared his thoughts, largely calling out Malaysians who have criticised the decision.
In his post on Threads, he welcomed the soon-to-be revamped syllabus, pointing out the government’s intention to pave the way for a more progressive education system in the future.

“I agree that there will be an adjustment period — that happens with all types of change.
“At the end of the day, if we truly want to build a better country, we have to build a better education system. Full stop,” he said.
He went on to highlight that although Malaysians often compare the country to more developed nations, they tend to “complain” when the government introduces initiatives to bring about change.
“But the moment we try to modernise, change the system, experiment and adapt, suddenly everyone complains.
“You can’t admire advanced countries and reject change at the same time,” he pointed out.
Netizens largely agreed with his message, welcoming the move as a step forward for Malaysia’s education system, but also expressed scepticism about how schools would manage such a change.
“The education system is definitely due for a revamp if we are looking to meet global standards. The question, however, is whether our primary school teachers are equipped to handle younger children. Will they be properly trained?” one user questioned.
