M’sian man’s family terrorised by loan sharks over debts owed by previous house owner’s son

A M’sian man’s dream home turns into a nightmare as loan sharks harass his family over debts owed by the previous house owner’s son.

A Subang Jaya homeowner’s life has turned into a nightmare after being mistakenly targeted by loan sharks chasing after debts owed by the previous owner’s son.

Lim, who bought the house in March 2023 to give his wife and four-year-old daughter “a better living environment”, said he never imagined his new home would come with such horrifying baggage, New Straits Times reported.

“The owner — the debtor’s mother — was eager to sell and personally contacted me, offering a 5 per cent discount to finalise the deal. I eventually moved in Oct 2023,” he was quoted as saying.

Six months later, things took a dark turn. Strangers started showing up at his doorstep demanding payments.

Despite lodging multiple police reports, the harassment only got worse — from threats and vandalism to even an attempted break-in.

Just yesterday, Lim woke up to find red paint splashed all over his house and posters plastered on his gate — moments before sending his daughter to kindergarten.

CCTV footage later revealed the act happened around 4am.

“I have no idea how many groups of loan sharks the previous owner’s son owes money to, or how much debt he has. But I want to stress that I have nothing to do with him. Please stop harassing my family and me,” he pleaded.

Lim said the latest posters carried Singapore-based phone numbers, hinting that multiple loan shark groups may now be involved.

After enduring more than a year and a half of torment, Lim said he’s now living in constant fear. “I am worried for the safety of my wife and daughter and hope the police will identify and arrest those responsible,” he said.
