A 47-year-old shop assistant denied kidnapping a Bangladeshi businessman for ransom in Selayang last June, with the case set for mention in 2026.
KUALA LUMPUR: A shop assistant has pleaded not guilty to kidnapping a Bangladeshi businessman for ransom in Selayang.
Jun’haidati Tukiman, 47, was charged alongside another individual still at large with abducting the 47-year-old man last June.
The alleged kidnapping occurred in front of the An-Nur Mosque in Taman Sri Murni at 11.30 pm on June 26.
The charge was framed under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961, read with Section 34 of the Penal Code.
Upon conviction, the offence carries a minimum sentence of 30 years and up to 40 years’ imprisonment with whipping.
Sessions Court Judge Dr Azrol Abdullah fixed February 13, 2026, for the case mention.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Vivien Yeap Jie Xi prosecuted the case.
The accused was represented by lawyer Mohd Zaidi Othman.
On July 30, seven foreign men were separately charged in the Magistrate’s Court here with the same offence. – Bernama
