Malay man’s visit to a Pasar Seni temple and a kind lesson on Hinduism sparks hope for unity among Malaysians online
AMID ongoing racial and religious tensions in the country, a recent social media post has warmed hearts and given many Malaysians hope that harmony can still prevail.
In a Threads post, Fudzail Fauzi shared that he visited the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple near Pasar Seni yesterday, where a kind Indian woman took the time to guide him through the basics of Hindu beliefs.
“At the temple near Pasar Seni, a kind woman taught me about Hinduism. Different races, different beliefs, but respect and kindness connect us all,” he wrote, adding that his grandmother is also Indian.
The post quickly drew an outpouring of positive responses from netizens, many praising the spirit of openness and mutual respect.
“Such a rare sight. Thank you and may God bless you, brother,” wrote user Daarrshan.
Another user said the post arrived at just the right moment, as she had been feeling overwhelmed by the growing number of hateful comments circulating online.
“Thank you, because this showed up just as I was on the verge of deleting this app because of its toxicity,” she commented.
When another user warned that some people might label him a “traitor” for visiting a Hindu temple, Fudzail responded calmly.
“Islam never teaches me or them to hate other religions or races. That’s on them,” he replied.
Others commended his curiosity and openness.
“We fear and hate what we don’t know. Kudos for having the curiosity and bravery,” commented @nlkwrites.
Another user, Sathgunalan, said the gesture had earned his respect.
“Respect to you. I wish we Malaysians of all ethnicities could have more people like you. In case our paths don’t cross, Selamat Hari Raya to you and your family,” he wrote.
Fudzail also urged those leaving provocative remarks to stop hiding behind anonymous accounts and spreading hatred online.
