Netizens flood the comments with warnings, personal stories, and explanations of the mall’s aggressive shopping culture.
A viral Thread post by @dyanaxdee has caught Malaysians’ attention after she detailed a shocking experience at a well-known electronics centre in Kuala Lumpur.
She claimed that she and her husband were threatened by a seller after deciding not to buy a laptop, with the seller allegedly threatening to leak her husband’s IC and insisting they withdraw RM2,000 from an ATM.
The post quickly drew a storm of reactions online, with many netizens sharing similar warnings and cautionary tales about shopping at the busy tech mall.
One worker at the mall stepped forward to offer help.
User zenthegeek said: “I’ve worked there for more than 10 years and things like this do happen, but we also get good ones. How about you let me know who did this to you and we help you sort it out properly and safely.”
Others stressed that shopping there requires experience and preparation. slim_trims commented: “Shopping there needs some skills. Go to established, major stores — my personal favourite is the green one on the left on the second or third floor if you take the escalator. The rest of the small shops are not worth looking at. I only trust shops that have been there since 2000.”
“Don’t ever buy expensive items in cash. If you get scammed, the receipt may not be legally binding. Paying by card or transfer at least gives you a money-trail,” mokh4675 added.
Some netizens shared how uncomfortable the environment felt. reneefongg wrote: “When I go there, people start calling me to enter their shops and don’t even let me browse. If you dress nicely, they keep staring at you. After that, I never stepped inside again.”
“Going in there is like entering Petaling Street. Don’t be quick to touch items if you’re just asking. Once they grab you and you ask about something else, suddenly you walk out feeling confused,” lemon.tea2020 added.
Some offered perspective on the aggressive behaviour. azwanzuhairi said: “Decide what you want and go straight to the shop. If you browse around, they’ll follow. It’s not a scam — just how they operate.”
