American influencer couple serves Malaysian breakfast to children as part of world culture education series

AN American couple has captured online attention after introducing their children to nasi lemak as part of a unique educational breakfast series.

In a video shared by @Thezandstras on TikTok, the influencer pair also prepared Malaysia’s beloved beverage, teh tarik, to complement the iconic national dish.

The couple is conducting a weekly breakfast series featuring cuisines from different countries to expose their children to global cultures and traditions.

According to them, each week the children spin a globe and randomly select a country, after which breakfast from that nation is prepared and served.

“Every week, the kids spin the globe and pick a country randomly, then we prepare breakfast from that country,” they explained.

Beyond serving Malaysia’s national breakfast, the couple also shared brief educational facts about the country with their children.

“Malaysia is a country in Asia. In Malaysia, they speak Bahasa Melayu,” they said in the video.

They also highlighted Malaysia’s rich tropical rainforests, including Taman Negara, parts of which are over 100 million years old.

Impressively, all the dishes were cooked by the husband for the first time.

When preparing the teh tarik, he demonstrated the authentic ‘pulling’ technique, raising the tea as high as possible between containers to create the signature light, frothy texture.

The nasi lemak spread was complete with all the traditional accompaniments—hard-boiled egg, cucumber slices, fried peanuts, and sambal ikan bilis (anchovies in spicy sauce)—just as it would be served in Malaysia.

The video has resonated with Malaysian viewers, many praising the family’s effort to authentically recreate the beloved breakfast and teach their children about different cultures through food.

User Sherryda, suggested the American couple to try roti canai as well.

In response, the couple said: “yess that was on our list, so many dishes to choose from! also want to try kaya toast next time.”
