University student opens up about feeling lonely, with netizens reminding her that life and friendships extend beyond campus

UNIVERSITY life is often portrayed as the best time to build lifelong friendships. But for one student, it has also been a season of quiet loneliness.

In a Reddit post, the university student admitted she feels left out for not being part of a “cool” friend group.

She shared that she was initially in a group of four, but things changed after a new girl joined and the group drifted apart. Now, she is only close to one friend.

“Most of the time I don’t think about it much, but sometimes it gets a bit lonely when I study, eat and walk around campus alone,” she wrote.

She added that she feels jealous seeing her classmates in established friend groups, hanging out and posting photos on Instagram, and wishes she could be part of a “cool” group too.

Her post drew mixed but thoughtful responses. One user, Substantial_Bend203, advised her to focus on academics and networking first.

He reminded her not to jeopardise her future over what he described as a small issue, encouraging her to appreciate her circumstances and trust that genuine friendships would come in time.

Others acknowledged that friendship struggles are common in university. Affectionate_Code_91 said it is better to have fewer but trustworthy friends than to be in a large group filled with hidden resentment.

Having gone through similar experiences, the user reassured her that although it may be difficult for now, she would eventually find the right people.

Another commenter, Otherwise_Smell44, empathised deeply with her feelings.

“Some people genuinely do not understand pure, unfiltered loneliness and having no friends,” the user wrote, adding that while the future is uncertain, the world is much bigger than university life and there is still hope ahead.
